The Why
A fair question. The honest answer: most AI tools directories aren't actually curated. They're either aggregators that automatically pull in anything with "AI" in the name, or monetised lists where placement is determined by who pays the most — dressed up as editorial recommendations.
The result is directories where you can't tell if a tool is genuinely good, still maintained, or even real. Searching for "best AI writing tools" on most directories returns the same 50 names regardless of quality, relevance, or whether they're still operational.
elloAI exists to fix that. The curation standard is simple: would this tool actually be useful to someone who needs it? If the answer is yes, it's listed. If the answer is no — or if we can't tell — it isn't.
The Standard
Every tool submitted to elloAI goes through a manual review before it goes live. The review checks for four things:
Does it actually work?
We visit the tool, check that it loads, and verify it does what it claims. Dead links, broken demos, and vaporware don't get listed.
Is it genuinely useful?
The tool needs to solve a real problem for a real user. Generic wrappers around existing models with no differentiation don't clear the bar.
Is it in the right category?
Submissions are placed in the category that best matches their primary use case. Cross-category tools are listed where they're most discoverable.
Is the description accurate?
We rewrite descriptions that are misleading, overly promotional, or unhelpfully vague. What you read on elloAI reflects what the tool actually does.
Reviews typically complete within 48 hours of a paid submission. If a tool doesn't pass review, the submitter is notified and a full refund is issued.
The Directory
elloAI covers every major AI tool category with a dedicated page per category — not just a filtered view of one big list. Each category page includes editorial context, curated tool listings, and SEO-optimised content updated monthly.
For Tool Builders
elloAI operates on a one-time paid listing model. There are no monthly fees, no renewals, and no "pay or we remove you" mechanisms. A listing is permanent from the moment it goes live.
The submission pipeline is fully automated. Submit your tool → pay via Stripe → the listing is reviewed and committed to the directory → Vercel redeploys automatically. No manual handoffs. Tools typically go live within 48 hours of submission.
Payment is processed entirely by Stripe. elloAI never stores card details.
